All that glitters aren’t Diamonds

Jewels in the Colors of Life.

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Have you savored Moray’s other “Diamonds” yet? So beautiful, some so rare, you can start your Morays Colored Gem Stones Collection matching your favorite gown, the color of someone’s eyes when they long for you. Their eye color when they don’t.

If you’ve spent any time with the Moray’s Diamond Buyers’ Guide, you know the ideal diamond is colorless. Even Fancy Color Diamonds (fancy blue, pink, yellow, etc.) are graded based at least in part upon color you can’t see, not what you can.

Whatever their color, Colored Gem Stones, popular as they are, can be more difficult to grade between Precious Colored (Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds) and Semi-Precious Colored (most garnets, amethysts, aquamarine, morganatic, erudite, “cats eye,” etc.)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Colored Gem Stones take their colors and variations from the natural conditions that create them. Those extra fancy, “rare” flourishes and “too good to be true” offers for unrealistic colors, and “certified” synthetic looking shapes, too often are not true at all. Merely some hustle trying to make a living.

Colored Gem Stones may be natural, manufactured or imitation. Telling which is which, let alone what each is worth beyond the pleasure its color imparts, is another big part of Morays dedication to educating our clientele with discretion, respect.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”sidebar-2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1493846367372{padding-bottom: 30px !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Manufactured or Made by Mother Nature?

Sometimes Colored Gem Stones make it difficult to say who got “fooled.”

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Natural (Mother Nature’s) stones’ values aren’t always decided because they are “natural.” Costs are always determined by quality, desirability and most importantly – availability/demand. (Much like Real Estate’s “location, location, location.”)

Determining which are “precious,” which “semi-“is another area where cultural desirability, not Earth Science, comes to play. In the west, “precious” stones are diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. In China, the finest jades may be valued just as precious and even more so.

Most stones are graded based upon color, translucency (clarity) and hardness, always filtered through quality, desirability and demand. Some more reasonably priced common “semi-precious” varieties – garnets, for example, are also known to occur in a very rare, very expensive variety called Tsavorite. A “Semi-Precious” stone for all its common relatives, can be that rare Tsavorite, far more valuable than a “Precious” mid-quality Emerald.

Regardless their origin, it is their overall condition, beauty, rarity and the burgeoning tastes of our patrons which glitters most amongst Moray’s Colored Gem Stone collection.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Telling one from the other, which from which, should never be a matter of mere taste. Deciding which will enhance your collection, which should be simply worn and enjoyed, which passed from grandmother to grand-daughter is another of the many ways our heritage of family stewardship comes to play.

Expert or beginner, our Morays family of gem stone professionals is here to help you distinguish which is best for you, your to-be-gifted person, your future/growing/considerable present collections and tastes.

Something more to remember about Colored Gem Stones?

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Synthetics, Treatments. How does a Moray’s Colored Gem patron save themselves painful Color Gem Histrionics? Most natural stones are treated in some way to deepen change or enhance color within the stone’s outer layers. Oils and waxes can fill-in fractures. Synthetic stones, created in labs, not in volcanoes, deserts, in the sea, can be as difficult for the novitiate to determine as treatments to any natural stone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Be sure to receive a lab certificate to verify authenticity and to identify the stone in great detail, in the event of loss. Before you do that, however, talk to your Moray’s expert. Make sure the purchase you make – from Morays, from anyone – is going to keep its value and keep you and your loved ones happy for a long, long time.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
